What We Do
Spoiler: it’s therapy, but not the kind that makes you want to ghost your therapist
Yes, we do therapy. But likely not the kind you’re used to. We specialize in therapy that helps you move through something, not just talk about it (using tools like CBT, EMDR, and IFS to support that forward motion). Our sessions are built around what matters to you, and we show up ready to work with you—in a space that’s safe, supportive, and judgment-free.
You won’t be doing this alone. And you won’t be doing it with someone who’s half-listening, either. You’ll be doing it with your new favorite people (that’s us)—the ones in your corner the whole way through.
Who We Work With
Real people, with real lives
(just like the one reading this)
We work with humans navigating all kinds of hard. The kind that doesn’t always have a name, the kind that’s been building for years, and the kind that showed up out of nowhere and put everything in a blender.
Some are grieving. Some are angry. Some are quietly falling apart while holding everything together for everyone else. Some are kids. Some are couples. Some are figuring out who they are. Some are just tired of feeling stuck.
Ditch The Couch was built for this. For you. For the messy, layered, in-progress version of your life. We don’t care what you brought here. We care about what you leave with.
Your shit is our shit, and we take that shit seriously.
Individual Therapy
If you’ve been waking up, looking around, and thinking “how the hell did I get here?” We want you in the room. Whether you’re burnt out, anxious, insecure, lost, angry for no clear reason, or just feeling disconnected from yourself or the world, this is a space where you don’t have to filter or fix it before you say it out loud. We work with people navigating trauma, identity shifts, self-doubt, and all kinds of stuck. You don’t have to be at rock bottom to start—you just have to be ready for something to shift.
Couples Therapy
You care about your partner—and you want your relationship to keep working, even when things get hard. Some couples come in feeling disconnected or caught in the same argument on repeat. Others just want to strengthen what’s already solid before stress, change, or life gets in the way. We work with all kinds of partnerships—monogamous, poly, queer, questioning—through communication challenges, trust issues, life transitions, and more. Regardless of why you’re here, no one gets blamed, and everyone gets heard.
Children & Family Therapy
Big feelings, big behaviors, and big transitions can flip the whole household upside down. If your kid is acting out, shutting down, melting down, or going through something they don’t know how to talk about—we’re here to help them process it and help you figure out how to support them through it. We work with children, teens, and caregivers navigating grief, divorce, school stress, gender and identity exploration, family tension, and more. The goal isn’t just a calmer day, it’s a safer, stronger system for everyone involved.
And yes—family therapy means more than just parenting support. We work with families of all shapes and stages: adult children and parents working through long-held patterns, siblings who can’t see eye to eye, relatives navigating cultural and generational divides. If your family is trying to communicate better, stay connected, or just stop spiraling into the same argument every time you talk—we’re here for that, too.
How It Works
How It Works
Let’s make this part simple, yeah?
Step One
Reach Out
You’ll fill out a short form and have a quick consult with our admin team. You can ask questions, share what’s been going on, or just get a feel for who we are.
Step Two
Get Matched
We’ll pair you with a licensed therapist who fits your needs, goals, and preferences. If the first match doesn’t feel right, no problem, we’ll help you find someone else on our team who does.
Step Three
Start the Work
You’ll have your first session, which is a deep-dive conversation to help your therapist understand your world. From there, you’ll work together to build a plan that evolves as you do.

Questions? We’ve Got Answers
It’d be weird if we didn’t, yeah?
-
Our therapists work with a wide range of mental health concerns, identities, and life experiences. Some of the areas we support most often include:
Anxiety, depression, burnout, and grief
ADHD and executive functioning
Trauma, C-PTSD, and religious trauma
Relationship struggles, identity exploration, and low self-worth
Gender, sexuality, and alternative lifestyles
Work stress, career transitions, and major life changes
We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in and help match you with the therapist who’s best equipped to support you. If what you’re navigating isn’t listed here, that doesn’t mean we can’t help. Ask us. If it’s not in our wheelhouse, we’ll help you find someone who’s a better fit.
-
This first session is a conversation, not a quiz. We’ll ask about what’s been coming up for you, where you’re feeling stuck, and what you want out of therapy. No pressure to lay everything out at once—we’ll go at your pace.
-
Weekly sessions tend to be the most effective, so that’s our starting point. If your schedule, finances, or goals call for something different, we’ll work together to figure that out.
-
That depends on what you’re working through and what kind of support you’re looking for. Some people come in for a short season; others stay longer. We’ll check in often to make sure things feel useful, aligned, and supportive.
-
Yes to both. We offer virtual therapy for clients across New York and New Jersey, and we have physical office locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan for in-person sessions.
-
We work with kids, teens, adults, and older adults. Most of our clients are 5 and up—and we meet people where they’re at, no matter their stage of life.
-
That depends on the therapist. Some work with EMDR or somatic practices. Others lean into CBT, IFS, EMDR, psychodynamic, or other frameworks. You can learn more about each therapist’s style on our Meet the Team page.
-
Rates range from $175 to $300, depending on the therapist. Some therapists offer sliding scale spots based on availability. Payment is processed securely online.
-
We’re in-network with Aetna, Northwell, UMR, and Original Medicare Part B.
If you have different coverage, we’ve partnered with Mentaya to help you get reimbursed through your out-of-network benefits. They file claims for you, deal with the insurance company, and make sure your session costs get back to you. You canlearn more or sign up here.
Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, and they guarantee submissions go through—or they refund that fee.
-
Yes. We send out monthly superbills you can submit to your insurance if you'd rather handle claims on your own.
