Don’t Just Take Our Word For It…..
Is this for us?
If you still care for each other but are stuck in repeat arguments, unsure how to get back on the same team, or want to strengthen the foundation of your relationship before a big life change—yes. You’ll leave each week with one simple tool to try before the next session.
The group is led by Sarah G. Otero, MS, pre-licensed MHC—a warm, real-talk therapist who’s spent the last four years helping couples turn tension into teamwork. Trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, Sarah brings equal parts humor and honesty, guiding couples to understand their patterns and reconnect in ways that actually last.
FAQ
-
Not stuffy or formal if that's a worry - just real couples dealing with the same challenges you are, and a facilitator who balances teaching with warmth and humor.
-
Yes, this is a six-week commitment. You’ll get the most benefit by attending consistently, since each week builds on the last. If you need to miss a session, private makeup sessions are available.
-
Between 3-6 couples, which is just enough for it to feel cozy but not uncomfortable.
-
This is a guided, structured group designed to feel comfortable and engaging — no long, awkward silences. Each session blends instruction with interactive elements. We’ll begin with a short teaching portion where I introduce new tools for communication and connection, and couples are welcome to ask questions or share if they’d like. After that, each couple will take about 10 minutes to turn off their audio and talk privately with each other about the day’s topic and how it applies to their relationship. This built-in private time helps ensure that both partners engage deeply with the material. We’ll then come back together, with optional time for sharing, and end with a simple, relevant assignment to try out during the upcoming week.
-
Yes—Aetna and Northwell Direct are in-network. Otherwise, private pay is $50 per couple / per session.
-
Yes, due to licensing. At least one partner needs to be located in NY or NJ during sessions. All sessions will be conducted virtually.

This group will be practical, interactive, and fun - we’ll learn, laugh, and even watch a few relevant clips from Mean Girls and Ted (the foul-mouthed Boston teddy bear, not Lasso). You’ll have the chance to bond with couples who are dealing with the same relationship challenges you are. And drawing from my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, I’ll share tools that help you understand your patterns, communicate better, and reconnect in ways that last.
My goal is to help you breathe new life into your relationship and start fresh with tools that actually stick.
Questions or concerns? Email me at sarah@ditchthecouchtherapy.com - I'll get back to you within 2-3 of business days.
